Graduation

When an undergraduate student in a modular faculty expects to graduate at the end of a particular semester, he/she must ‘Apply for Graduation’ (AFG) during the period stipulated by their Faculties. If the student does not do so, and if he/she is not approved to continue with his/her undergraduate degree programme, the home faculty will complete the AFG process on his/her behalf.

Degrees are conferred by the Chancellor throughout the year. A student will be conferred when he/she has completed all necessary requirements pertaining to their respective degree(s).

Please refer to the table below for a breakdown on the different periods of degree conferment.

You may use this conferment letter to show that you have completed your degree requirements, especially in the period before receiving your degree scroll.

  1. Electronic Degree Scroll and Transcript

NUS is now issuing electronic (e-) degree scrolls and transcripts to our students through the secured OpenCerts platform based on blockchain technology, as part of the Government's Smart Nation initiative.

These e-documents will facilitate mobility as graduates may share them with potential employers, universities or other parties, who may access and validate them at their own time and convenience.

Your e-degree scroll and e-transcript will be sent to your NUS lifelong email account within two months from your date of conferment.

  2. Collection of Degree Scroll and Transcript
Hard copy degree scrolls and transcripts are usually distributed during the Commencement ceremonies. However, you may self-collect or authorize a proxy to collect the degree scroll(s) and transcript(s) on behalf at Registrar’s Office, or request for the scroll(s) and transcript(s) be mailed to you at a fee, prior to the ceremonies.

Please refer to the Degree Scrolls website, or the direct links for different gradating cohorts below, for more information (e.g. collection periods and how to collect).

  5. Surrender of Student’s Pass and Spouse/Child Social Visit Pass to Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
International students holding a Student’s Pass (STP) must cancel their STP within 7 days of being conferred.  Please refer to the ICA website for information on how to surrender the STP either in person*, or at the checkpoint when leaving Singapore.

    *Note:
    • Students may go down to ICA to surrender their STP in-person. Once the cancellation is done, a short-term visit pass will be issued on the spot.

Alternatively, NUS can assist students with the e-cancellation of their STP. If you wish to cancel your STP and continue to stay in Singapore/apply for Long Term Visit Pass, please complete the Request for Cancellation of Student’s Pass form and email it to UG/GD Help enquiry mailbox. However, please note that it may take up to 1 week for your STP to be cancelled and for you to receive your short-term visit pass.

Graduating students who intend to look for a job in Singapore may apply for a Long Term Visit Pass which is valid for one year and is non-renewable. They are advised to apply online once they have completed all graduation requirements (i.e. upon release of examination results), to factor in the expected delay in processing time.

Graduating international students are reminded that they need to be on a valid pass to remain in Singapore at all times.
